Christmas Visits Patriots

Dave Paulsen and the Patriots received an unofficial visit from Michael Christmas, a 6’7″ small forward from Virginia Beach, Va on Monday. Per the Twitter account @squad_sole that shared the picture of the visit, Christmas has also recently visited James Madison (8/25) and Old Dominion (8/24). Thanks to user “duncanlamb”on the boards for the tip.

Why this could be important: Christmas is the reigning Virginia 6A player of the year, but has dipped a bit in the rankings of recruiting services (if you believe in that kind of thing), which might have scared off the power conference schools. He appears to be looking in-state, and someone with his height, skills and a “chip on his shoulder” is exactly the kind of player Paulsen can work with.

Christmas currently sports 3 stars from 247sports and has already visited St. Louis, VCU and Oregon. He left Landstown HS in Virginia Beach to attend Huntington Prep in West Virginia, before leaving and re-enrolling at Landstown. The Pilot-Online had this to say:

Christmas is rated a four-star recruit by 247Sports and a three-star by Rivals. He has offers or interest from Oregon, Texas Tech, Villanova, Virginia Commonwealth, Rhode Island, James Madison, Old Dominion, Hampton and Norfolk State. He averaged 10.1 points and 5.2 rebounds for Huntington Prep, including a season-high 28 points against Ohio Valley Christian School in November. But his scoring and playing time had fallen off lately – he averaged just 2.2 points in his last six games.

Maybe a case of being homesick? Maybe he had some personal issues? Hard to tell how schools like Oregon and Villanova view him now. Hopefully, Michael will seriously consider bringing his talents to Fairfax.
