caputoAccording to the Palm Beach Post, Former G Mas assistant Chris Caputo now mentioned to be in contention for the position vacated by Paul Hewitt, as speculated by, well, everyone.

In regards to Jay Larranaga being a target for the Head Coaching position, reports out of Boston indicate that Mason officials had not contacted him as of Tuesday.

Caputo, who has been rumored to be taking jobs at Maryland and UNC-Wilmington in recent seasons, is widely considered to be a strong candidate to earn his first head coaching position.

Caputo, who graduated from Larranaga’s alma mater Bronx (N.Y.) Archbishop Molloy, has worked under Larranaga in each of his 10 seasons as a college assistant. He was his video coordinator at George Mason for three years before he became a coach. His primary duties at UM involve recruiting – he is known for having strong ties to the talent-rich Washington, D.C. and Baltimore areas – and scouting the opposition.

Through a UM spokesperson, Caputo declined to comment on his interest in the George Mason job.
