Episcopal PG Xavier Johnson has given Mason a verbal commitment. Looks like it’s him and Hartwell manning the PG spot once Otis is gone.

Good pickup for Mason. Another underrecruited kid with basketball in his DNA.

    One scholarship available for 2019.

God, this is going to be so much fun. I love having a crapton of local kids on the squad. If Paulsen can win with a bunch of DMV kids (especially 703 kids), I will be at a LOT of games.

It's just more fun when they're locals, and now we've got 4 kids in the last 3 recruiting classes that played their HS ball within 45 minutes of the patriot center.

You are spot on - it definitely makes the games more interesting to the surrounding community. Cannot freaking wait for the season. I like how the roster is being constructed.

On a side note - when I dropped my oldest off to school last weekend - I went to the blank area that used to be the apartments and poured some Bullit Whiskey in honor of GMU Tom and the numerous virgins he defiled there.

Xavier had 29 points on 9-12 FGs
    (7-7 from 3-point range), 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists (zero turnovers) in Episcopal’s season-opening win.

I've seen this kid play. I hope they can hold on to him.

In 5 games, Xavier is averaging 20.6 points per game, 4.4 assists, and 4.2 rebounds.

In the same 5 games, Xavier's younger brother Darius, a sophomore 5'11" guard, is averaging 17.8 points, 2.4 assists, and 5.4 rebounds.

I hope Darius likes playing with his brother and wants to continue in the future.

This may become the most important thread of the 2018-19 season.

I barely gather much from highlight tapes. But in you guy's opinion what position and what type of player(i.e shooter, slasher, pass first, post) is Johnson?

He’s definitely a point guard who wants to be on the ball, unlike Adams-Woods who might be a better 2 guard.

Those who saw him play in person say he can get into the lane whenever he wants and he gets to the line a lot. He seems to have a pretty effective outside shot.

I’m curious to see how big he is. I’ve seen him listed
Anywhere from 6’0 to 6’3. He’s already 25 pounds heavier than Jamal Hartwell was last season.

Funny, I see it as the opposite. To me, Adams-Woods seems better able to get to the rim, and Xavier seems like a shooter; although, XJ needs to quicken his release. But, I don't think we're getting Adams-Woods.

He’s got a little bit of Marquis Moore in his game except he can shoot from 3 too.

Apparently he's a good shooter, but that release is something else. He also wrongfoots his release all the time!

That said, he's clearly a hell of an athlete, and already has a college body.

Wouldn't blow my mind if he's starting by the end of next year.
