I had no clue until last night that Yuta Watanabe was in the NBA playing for Memphis, played 7 minutes. Definitely don’t miss him in a GW uniform he gave us fits.

Tremaine Price's Bowie High School boys' basketball team is 4-1.

Trivia question: Name the former Mason men's basketball player who won a Virginia state basketball championship as a player and coach?

"Oskaloosa--Karmari Newman (Jr., Detroit, Mich., Digital Communication) is knocking down long balls at a frantic pace, and for that great play, he was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week Monday.

Newman notched his first career award after leading #6 WPU (12-1, 6-1 Heart) to three victories last week.

On Monday against Clarke, the junior scored a season-high 32 points. He then tacked on a 17-point performance versus Graceland Thursday, before closing out the week with another 25 against Evangel Saturday.

Newman averaged 24.7 points for the week in addition to seven rebounds, six assists, six steals, and one block. A perimeter shooter by trait, he shot a stellar 57.9% overall, including a 58.6% clip from behind the arc. The junior was also strong at the line with an 86.7% mark.

For the season, Newman is averaging 19.2 points per game in addition to 3.2 rebounds; he has 20 assists, 14 steals, and one block to his credit as well. The guard is shooting 46.2% from the field, while leading the Statesmen from three-point land (44.9%) and from the free-throw line (90.9%)."

William Penn is currently ranked #5 in the NAIA Division I.

"Randolph had one last gasp in itself, tying the game on a 3-pointer on its next trip down the floor, before Zach Garrett gave the hosts the lead for good with a 3-ball at 1:29.

A 4-for-4 performance from the line, two each from Hill and Garrett, iced the victory."

"'Offensively, we moved the ball well in the second half after struggling in the first. Zach (Garrett) and Alex (Horvath) were huge in the second half. This was a great team win.'"

    More accomplishments for Dane Fischer's W&M team - https://tribeathletics.com/news/2020/1/7/mens-basketball-named-nabc-division-i-team-of-the-week.aspx:

"Men's Basketball Named NABC Division I Team of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After winning three road games over a six-day span to kick off league play, William & Mary men's basketball was named the Division I National Association of Basketball Coach (NABC) Team of the Week, the organization announced on Tuesday.

The Tribe became the first team in the 35-year history of the Colonial Athletic Association to start league play 3-0 with all three wins on the road. W&M opened the week with a win at Elon on Dec. 30 and then picked up the program's first Northeast road sweep.

The Green and Gold rolled to an 88-61 win over CAA preseason favorite Hofstra on Jan. 2, posting the second-largest margin of victory on the road in the Tribe's league history. W&M closed out the week with a thrilling 66-64 win over previous league unbeaten Northeastern on Jan. 4 thanks to Nathan Knight's tough lay-up with 1.1 seconds remaining.

Playing 12 of its first 16 games away from home, the Tribe sits at 11-5 on the season and leads the country with seven road victories. With its wins last week, W&M opened CAA play 3-0 for just the fifth time in program history. The Tribe moved into the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 for the first time since 2016, coming in at No. 25 on Monday.

Along with the team honors, Knight, who leads the country with 12 double-doubles, was selected as the CAA Player of the Week for a league-leading third time this season and tied a school record with his sixth award overall. He averaged 21 points and 9.7 rebounds per game last week, including back-to-back double-doubles in the victories at Hofstra and Northeastern."
