I think that if he is used properly then he could be a solid contributor. Everything I have heard about him (and seen) is that he has a fantastic work ethic and is a great leader. It obviously didn't work out here but I wish him all the best and think he will play some valuable minutes for UNI.
I’m sure Dave vouched for him in the strongest possible terms. And I’m sure UNI is thinking a change of scenery is all Goanar needs to rediscover his game.
https://www.desmoinesregister.com/s...ts-transfer-ben-jacobson-2020-uni/5139664002/: "With five scholarships coming off the books ahead of next season, Northern Iowa has dipped into the transfer market for another piece. The Panthers landed 6-foot-7 forward Goanar Mar, a George Mason transfer who signed with Ben Jacobson and company Wednesday afternoon. Mar, a junior, entered the portal earlier this month. He has one year of eligibility remaining, which will likely be used in the 2021-22 season. 'We agreed with the coaching staff that it's going to be best and go ahead and assume that I'm going to redshirt for this upcoming season,' Mar said, 'and then play the following season.'"
His mechanics (running, jumping, & cutting) did not look right. I'm not sure if he was injured or not, but another year to sit and recover/strengthen can only do him well.
In contrast, Kier will not have a year off to get acclimated. This is an underrated factor which Kier understands and is why he will remain. Unless Pearl is offering him cash, I dunno what the hold up is.
He’s at least leaving the door open to return. I don’t think he would be taking that public posture if this was a normal offseason.
I dunno why kids do stupid things. Maybe you were perfect and dont get it. Point is when kids get to see a different perspective when they are recruited again. A good amount stay at original school after entering portal. A good amount arent welcomed back.
You'd have to do some tabulating, but a quick scroll down the list it's pretty easy to estimate: https://247sports.com/Season/2019-Basketball/TransferPortal/
