The ESPN guys didn't even mention the commitment even though he was ranked in their ESPN 100, but they updated their recruiting page. Peep #31 (Goanar) and #32 - http://espn.go.com/college-sports/b...sition/power-forward/class/2017/view/position Guess they must be sore from dick riding power five schools so much. An ESPN guy on the commitment: https://twitter.com/PaulBiancardi/status/757984497262481408
Here's some video from this summer: http://www.courtsidefilms.com/news_article/show/649628?referrer_id=1227615 The book is that he's a defensive maven who can guard multiple positions, and a jack of all trades on offense. He obviously needs to add some weight, but he's long. Good pickup.
If anyone has access to the ESPN video app, it has D1 Minnesota's game vs Team Loaded (VA)s game on replay. It truly shows Mar's all around game, he starts the game hitting two threes. During the game they mention he was ranked 22 on ESPNs list of top 100 PFs so F their list. GiantKiller that's some good stuff getting the attention of those ESPN guys, keep up the good work.
In another thread (and I'm paraphrasing), someone was saying we couldn't land these types of recruits yet because we don't have a winning record, so why give DP an extension? I think this answers that! Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
The best part of this early commitment is that Goanar hasn't even begun his senior year in high school. He's already an elite wing defender who is crafty around the basket and has a nice mid-range game. Now he has a full year to get stronger and become more consistent beyond the arc. Regardless of recruiting stars, this is a monster signing for Mason. It sends a signal to other high-level kids that we're not gonna be down much longer, so hop aboard the damn train while you can.
I saw a resemblance. In one of his clips, Goanar was using the back of his body efficiently to shield the ball as he dribbled... just like Luke used to do.
To me the most glaring thing from the highlights was his use of his body in attacking the rim - very Luke-esque, aka deceptively athletic
It looks like the earlier signing period is Nov 9th through 16th. http://www.nationalletter.org/signingDates/future.html
Additionally, maybe Goanar is "deceptively athletic." Edit: Oops, just saw Joe Shannon said "deceptively athletic" already. Sorry, Joe.
Minny dude. Awesome. Coach I played golf with from there I think. White dude. Nice guy. Good get! Excited to see in him in the green and gold and white and black and sometimes grey!!!
Petey likey. With the caveat that these are highlight videos, he shows a little bit of everything - shooting, passing, handles, and defensive tenacity. This one is from over a year ago: View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKKGInTeLo4 and this is from two years ago: View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRRlxbgnvuk If anyone has anything more recent I'd love to see it. It's easy to see why he'd be rated so highly given his size and well-rounded game. This reminds me of the Ryan Pearson signing in that we're celebrating now but we'll be clenching our buttcheeks all season hoping a bigger school doesn't sign him away. Is it too late to start the 2018 A-10 rookie of the year thread?
