The Washington Nationals want to put a roof over Nationals Park, and they want D.C. taxpayers to pick up the tab.

Multiple sources told News4 that executives with the team approached several District officials, including Mayor Vincent Gray’s office, to propose the addition to the ballpark.

While the discussions are in the preliminary stages, diagrams of what the proposed roof would look like as well as estimates of the cost have been presented to the mayor’s office.

The estimated cost would be $300 million.

One of the dumbest ideas I've heard in awhile.

Yea, Nats Park could host events of all kinds year round, but I just don't see how it's a good idea. I heard the Mayor actually laughed when he heard about this.

The Nats had four rainouts and one postponed game (Navy Yard shooting), so from a pure baseball perspective it makes no sense. Let the taxpayers use their money on more realistic and necessary things.

Since the stadium roof is a stupid idea we might as well use this thread for useful Nats things, such as:

    FISTER!

Waiting to find out return, but #Nats have traded Corey Brown (DFA'd last week) to #Athletics. 8th trade between Rizzo/Beane in 3 years!

Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com says the Nationals are interested in free agent closer Grant Balfour, and may be willing to trade Drew Storen to make it work financially. As of now the Nats have Rafael Soriano as their primary closer and Storen figures to be next in line. Trading Storen, Rosenthal says, would free up another $3.45 million.

Balfour, 36, agreed to terms with the Baltimore Orioles back in December, but the team backed out due to concerns with his physical. That would be something to watch if the Nationals do indeed bring him in.

That line-up doesn't scare anyone with him IN it. I like him. Professional hitter at a young age. Injury prone though.

Done and finished. Time to blow up the bullpen, keep Papelbon but the rest go, especially Storen. He is dead to me.
