I don't think Bennett has to do alot of selling. His system maybe just as boring as DPs...but I think there's a whole of other things he can offer that we can't. Namely just playing in the ACC even if you discount the academics, athletic resources, etc. I will stand corrected to the group. DPs system is similar to UVA and Wichita State. People love this type of scheme and will go play it anywhere it seems. (Oddly someone pointed out they may be similar but somehow they seem to get recruits and win with it...) Then we are left with what..............?
I think we’ve gotten some very good players since Dave has been here, we just haven’t been able to put it all together and get over the hump for a variety of reasons. No need to re-hash them all. Assuming no more defections or crippling injuries, we’re finally going to have an experienced rotation. If he can’t show significant improvement next season and land some of the quality recruits we’re chasing in the 2021 class, I see no argument for continuing down this same path.
We will probably say something of this ilk 1000 times for the next 8 months haha. That also said, if this is it for Dave (and Brad potentially), we have to at least tip the cap and say that whoever comes in next has a little more to work with in terms of facilities than what they did. Having a practice facility (not saying its fantastic just having one), having some nice upgrades to EBA, and the locker rooms, can only help whoever takes over.
Anyone care to update their predictions? My starting 5 would be XJ, Boyd, Miller, AJ, Oduro with Hartwell playing big minutes off the bench.
all we heard from GSII who has never been wrong is that Paulsen promised Boyd a starting role. Gotta go by GSII's word since he is proven to be correct 110% of the time
replace Boyd with Greene. Boyd becomes 6th man extraordinaire. that's two sophs, a senior, redshirt senior and junior. Gotta win with that.
I def think it should be a competition, but I’d imagine Greene wouldn’t play great off the bench. He’s streaky, I wonder if being a six man after being our leading scorer last season would mess with his head.
Agreed but at least this year we’ll have another option if Javon is on a cooler ... having Boyd means Greene and Miller both can play fewer minutes. That’s a good thing.
Yep Boyd should see some big minutes this year. I still think we could use a little more depth at the 3. Will be interesting to see how Boyd has developed after a full year off.
Hopefully the time off has helped his knees. We need the Boyd who scored over 2,000 points in HS and broke Phil Ford’s all-time scoring record for the state of North Carolina.
Oduro AJ Miller Greene XJ Boyd Hartwell Henry/Calixte Polite Barring any further additions or subtractions, this is our most likely rotation. Can this team get into the upper half of the A-10? We’ll see.
I’m sure this wasn’t the hill Paulsen wanted to die on. But here we are. Hope the one time transfer rule doesn’t happen. lil Jack might get 10 mins a game
Greene is a better defender at the 2 spot, too. Boyd will come off the bench for Miller and Greene. Hartwell for XJ, but we will probably see some of Hartwell and XJ on the floor together, like we did last season. Hartwell could beat out XJ for the starting PG spot too if XJ doesn't come out strong. I like XJ more as the pass first point guard playing with Greene, Miller, and AJ who will take a high volume of shots, but Hartwell has shown he can be a good scorer and a capable defender when he's healthy and locked in. If I had my wish now that Kier is gone for sure, it would be for a hybrid big who could play at both the 4 and 5 spots -- and maybe that turns out to be Henry, but would love a JUCO or transfer with some experience even if they aren't starting.
