Name your price, Jim. Against all HR policies I created this position just for you. No one else will be considered!
Dr Washington did a video conference with alumni that was broadcasted on GMUTV. A Patriot Club board member asked his viewpoint on athletics. Paraphrasing what he said, he first mentioned the pride of athletics to a university mentioning his time from Ohio State and how donations and pride went up when the football team was winning. The Patriot Club member chimed in with the final four. He understood the final four was a sense of pride "I'm very supportive of the next final four team, I don't know about a football team but I will do what I can to support athletics and continue to support teams that people know about but support athletics in entirety. You're going to see me at games, I'm a fan, I'm going to be a big supporter of athletics." He also mentioned how he worked with the basketball team at NC State as a math tutor. Obviously it's day 1, nothing is imminent, but I can't help but think he will continue to let Brad do what he can with athletics, and perhaps expand his ability as possible. Probably within a few years, he might hire his own person (if not sooner) which is common.
Thank God he was Dean of the Engineering school and not philosophy or Medieval Erotic Literature. Looks like a solid hire.
Medieval Erotic Lit sounds like an awesome class, not going to lie: Humanities is the school you are looking to disparage there.
Doesn't come close to the joys of Violent Lesbian Sexual Philosophy. And no I don't disparage the Humanities - you know the real humanities not the SJW made up classes. But holding a degree from the School of Engineering and business -- This selection does make my nerd genes tingle. but aside from that looks like a solid hire that will continue the development of GMU. Strong Hire.
I’ve got a feeling that Washington will be good for the university as a whole, but a net neutral on basketball. Can’t see him approving any huge increases in funding, but I don’t think he’ll cut any either. If we make a tournament, who knows. Might see the value in the program and reinvest some of that additional money.
Obviously its day 2 (lol) so its hard to project, but I do agree with you. He seems very enthusiastic about sports and understands the pride behind it as he noted about how when Ohio State football does well, money and pride increase tremendously He also seemed peeved at how there isn't much alumni giving for a school of our size. If Brad and co can convince him (and it wouldn't take much) that funding athletics more to compete and succeed helps alumni out, I can't see why he would be against it. Much like Cabrera, whats good on the court helps the school.
Well, why do you get to even say "politics?" Who elected you baby Jeebus? POLITICS POLITICS POLITICS SPORTS POLITICS Sorry I started my 4th drinking early
Dude my company has this as a holiday - but doing some work in the AM. Aint you supposed to be remote because of the Corona?
