I don't care how many stars this kid has. This is a huge signing for the near future of our program. Kid is as explosive an athlete as we've ever had in this program. Turned down Va Tech football to come play basketball at Mason. Gotta love that.

Gotta say, very impressed with what Paulsen and the staff have been able to do so far -- especially considering the tire fire they inherited from Hewitt. Let's get Josh Hall and Greg Williams and we'll have one hell of a nice 2016 class.
Really like this pick up. Ian has legitimate D-I physicality to his game right now. Love how he finishes through contact, his range on his jump shot and his willingness to dish. He does remind me a little of Folarin Campbell, Bryon Allen or even Carlos Yates (going back some years) but I think he has a better vertical. This is the type of athlete (strength, speed and verticality) we have not had at the guard/small forward position for awhile.
His football highlights are impressive as well, played WR/SS/QB http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2104830/ian-boyd
Props to Jim for predicting that Ian Boyd would choose basketball over football: "Everything I'm hearing is that he's leaning toward basketball, but maybe he winds up going to ECU or ODU and tries to play both. Who knows at this point? With Boyd and Mayimba on the same team, we'd have two of the freakiest athletes in the A-10." gmujim92, Jul 30, 2015
My neighbor has ties to that part of North Carolina and said that the basketball program and head coach at Apex HS are well regarded.
Some good insight.... Last season, Boyd averaged 16 points, 7 boards, 3 assists, and 1.5 steals per game and on the EYBL circuit this year Boyd put up averages of 5 points, 3 boards, and 1 assist. All of this while defending the opposing team’s best player, no matter the position. http://www.phenomhoopreport.com/news_article/show/561502?referrer_id=1555437
This guy obviously looks solid. I'm really glad the staff picked up what seems to be more of a bruiser considering his build and football background. With the first couple of signings, I was a little worried we would only be getting soft white dudes that would have normally gone to Bucknell.
His EYBL numbers would've been better if he hadn't been playing on an absolutely loaded CP3 squad. But I particularly like the note about his defense. Boy do we need that in the worst way at the SG spot.
Rarely ... as in, never. I've been thinking about it since last night, and I'm reasonably sure Boyd will be the most explosive athlete we've ever had. He already has a college-ready body and still has eight months before HS graduation. Pretty amazing that his only basketball offers were Mason, Radford and Western Carolina.
