I get that we can't get a video score board bc of the weight and safety codes but the arena has 4! big screens on the corners that can be used as video scoreboards. They show a video intro to start games, why can't they be used for video replays as well for now.

Replays and highlights? C'mon, how else are we going to learn about the new chicken finger combo basket at Glory Days.

well most of your posts are associated with sorority titties so if we don't see any vulgar, obscene, or immoral verbiage in the first few words we just tend to stop reading.

Hey now that is not true - and is hurtful.

    Ok maybe partially true.

So, are you guys saying replacing the roof and support structure will trigger a ton of code violations that need updating?

Like any type of building or facility - when you do an rennovation/change - you then are automatically requierd to comply with current code. So if they made adjsutments or significant changes - they would assume a lot more cost. They would need to change the roof structurally - not just replace it.

So we either fix this at $10 million or replace the arena at $90 million? Lose/lose right there. Considering they're dumping $1 million into the locker room looks like we're stuck in EBA for quite a while.

It has very little to do with the weight of the scoreboard or whether the roof can safely carry the load.

It's more of a technicality than anything, but it's an expensive one.

Considering the age of the building and our other athletic facility needs, it's easy to see why such an expenditure is considered foolhardy by the administration.

Mason looked at using lightweight flat panels 2-3 years ago and then nothing more ever happened, so I assume the answer (at least then) was no.

Someone needs to "accidentally" destroy the Patriot Center so Brad can collect the insurance

Given EBA's service to the NoVA community, George Mason has a really good case for public financing for either renovations or a new arena. Of course, this is also the Virginia legislature we're talking about, too.

I was actually thinking about that earlier. Seems that a better arena would put more people in seats, increase sales (and tax revenue) and bring better acts to VA. Granted, I don't know if any acts choose not to come here because of the arena's inability to host them or simply from a capacity point of view. More than what we have in terms of seating would be too much for basketball, but might get us acts that can't quite cut the Verizon Center. Would Fairfax County or the state be able to finance even part of it?

Maybe in 2006, but I don't understand why video scoreboards are still so heavy in 2017. Big, light-weight HDTVs have dropped in price significantly over the years, Jumbotron prices should as well.

You're never gonna get a new arena publicly financed here, but at least the legislature could give its blessing to a plan for Mason to finance one on its own.

Not sure what the rules are on bond financing for entities like universities. If we could raise the cash for a new arena by floating G.O. bonds backed by the state, that would certainly be a quicker path than relying on donations.
