Howard lost to Belmont 95 - 78, Box Score: https://hubison.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats/2020-21/belmont/boxscore/8687
    Lost to Queens 85 - 71: https://hubison.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats/2020-21/queens-n-c-/boxscore/8703

Howard was 4 - 29 overall last year and finished 1 - 15 in conference play. Only 3 of their wins were against D1 opponents. They were literally one of the worst teams in basketball.

    Schedule: https://hubison.com/sports/mens-basketball/schedule
    Roster: https://hubison.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster
    Stats: https://hubison.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats

Howard lost their leading scorer Charles Williams (18.5 ppg) to graduation. The Bison return 6’6” Wayne Bristol Jr. (12.6 ppg last year) and 6’5” Kyle Foster (9.2 ppg last year). Howard received national recognition by recruiting the number 16 player in the nation in Makur Maker. The 6’11” center was ranked the #4 big man in the country. He averaged 14.7 ppg and 7.4 rpg this summer on the Adidas Grassroots Circuit. He is projected to be an NBA lottery pick in the 2021 draft. He is preseason 1st team MEAC. He had 11 points and 8 rebounds against Belmont. Not much of a difference maker in his college debut.

The Bison averaged 69.9 ppg while giving up 81.3 ppg last year. As a team they shot 42.0% from the field and 34.4% from 3. They allowed opponents to 46.8% shooting and 34.9% from 3. Defense was not a strong area last year. They were out rebounded by more than 7 boards per game during the 19-20 season. It will be interesting to see how much of an impact Maker can make on a program needing help offensively, defensively, and on the glass.

They are picked #3 in preseason MEAC Northern Division polls and 5th overall.

    The game is on ESPN3.

My prediction: Battle between a real bad defensive team (90ppg) against a really inept offensive team. GMU squeaks out a 70 - 69 win.

    https://queensathletics.com/news/20...sion-i-howard-university-in-paradise-jam.aspx:

"WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team picked up its first win of the 2020-21 season on Friday evening, defeating NCAA Division I Howard University 85-71 on day two of the Paradise Jam from the Walter E. Washington Event Center.

The Royals (1-1) fell behind early but a layup by sophomore Gavin Rains put his team ahead 7-6 with 17:12 to play in the first half and Queens remained in front for the remainder of the contest."

"The Royals scored 25 points off of 18 Howard (0-2) turnovers and shot 51.6 percent from the floor as well as 53.8 percent (7-for-13) from 3-point range."

We should... should... win this by double digits. Queens is a better team than Howard, which, again, is surprising given that they are D2.

Howard shutting down Makur Maker until he gets healthy. Tomorrow got a little easier.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2020/11/28/makur-maker-injury-howard-basketball/:

"Freshman Makur Maker has been shut down for the foreseeable future due to a 'nagging' groin injury, according to Howard men’s basketball coach Kenneth Blakeney."

"With Maker out for the foreseeable future, Howard (0-2) is now missing four of its five projected starters just two games into the season.

Freshman Jordan Wood (Shoulder), sophomore and reigning MEAC Freshman of the Year Wayne Bristol Jr. (labrum/covid precautions) and senior Purdue transfer Nojel Eastern (ankle/awaiting NCAA transfer waiver) have yet to suit up for the Bison."

Mason -16...and we should cover that.

Can't imagine not holding out AJ again though to rest for Maryland...

We will win. Jim will hop off the ledge because the win will be convincing and then hop back on the ledge after Maryland beats us by 35 even though Maryland sucks

Hopefully it's not close and we can work on our halfcourt sets a bit. There were a few more 1-4 sets last game that looked to have better motion and ball movement. If we can be a little crisper with our passes, it might help move us away from the dribble-handoff motion crap.

Gonna take a lot more than beating Howard to get me back on board. Like, stuff I’m pretty sure this team isn’t capable of doing. But I’m certainly open to being pleasantly surprised.

We’ve been waiting for “the pretty” for a decade.

I feel like that guy in China who sued his wife for bearing him ugly children. She didn't disclose to him she's had massive ammounts of plastic surgery.... he won the case by the way. He was waiting for "the pretty" as well.

Nobody played a game in 8 months. That isn't an excuse for a team looking uninterested vs Queens.

    We'll see about 'the pretty'.

    Always here for the players.

A good example of this is DC United this season, who were abysmally bad. They fired the coach after losing something like 4 or 5 in a row by multiple goals. Interim steps in and they win 3 in a row immediately. It’s very rarely the players’ fault.

Edit: When the old coach was fired, the players begged him to let them play more open attacking soccer and to have fun. So he put them in the basest of base formations and told them to have fun.
