If Greg Calixte plays anymore minutes over Malik Henry I’m going to scream. That stretch in the first half where Greg was in and we gave up a double digit lead was the game. Greg provides nothing on offense, committed terrible fouls and watched his guy blow by him on the pick and roll more than once. There is no point in playing him at this point for anything other than in fouling situations or really bad foul trouble. Give Malik Henry his minutes for experience, he can’t do any worse than Greg.
Greg seems to be a great kid and can be effective against teams like LaSalle who are soft in the post, but I likewise am befuddled why Malik is not playing the backup 5 minutes at this point. This team is going nowhere — may as well get Malik on the floor and let him get acclimated because gluing his ass to the bench isn’t helping anything.
The fact that we've seen significantly more of Polite than Henry should tell us exactly how unready Henry must be.
I mean Frazier hasn’t seen so many minutes and even Daddy’s minutes have diminished. He got a few minutes in the second half. I have to think Dave is trying to ride with experience, but the problem (as usual) is the experience is under performing.
When your experience is costing you the game, maybe turn to something else? We aren't going to win games pretty, I don't understand why we don't turn every one of these games into a rock fight. Just turn everyone into junk yard dogs a la Drexel.
Unready or not, Henry can at least protect the rim. That’s not nothing when your guards give up penetration like a slutty girl on prom night.
a rock fight? With these pussycats? Come on man...these guys are soft like their coach who recruited them.
So I agree with everyone that Greg is probably not really getting it done. But aside from garbage minutes against the La Salle walk in’s, I don’t see anything pointing to Malik being ready to fill the void. If the goal is to get him experience, I absolutely agree. But if the goal is to try to win games (which despite everything, I think Paulsen is still trying to do, because the heat is getting turned up), then you’ve gotta ride your seniors until you are absolutely certain that you have no other option.
My biggest issue with Calixte isn’t that he’s not a shot-blocker, but he doesn’t even really contest drives or give hard fouls when guys go to the rim against us. There were 5-6 times when they got a straight-line drive and layup when he was in and he never rotated over to challenge it. It’s weird.
our bigs don’t rotate well on penetration. Aj is the only one who is there sometimes to help with a block. Oduro backs away too
Sad when this is how we feel about a senior, who looks about the same or worse than their freshman season...
It's nearly 1am....and while doing patient reports, I am now just going "oh yeah, I bet there was a game." I have to say my lack of interest has now surpassed the indifference at the end with Hewitt. I believe it's worse because this is the second time around with another coach not getting it done. Christ, right now the local Southern Maine Community Collège Seawolves who start their season Feb 4 have more upside. If we go a 3rd waste of 5 years, we should just move back to the CAA.
9 rebounds and 5 steals is excellent BUT, 1 - 9 and 1 - 5 good for 5 points isn't exactly stellar. He's shooting just 37.2% for the year. Only 24.5% from 3.
I disagree with your comment. However, why would he retweet the video of his only FG in a 20-point loss - https://twitter.com/MasonMBB/status/1350523419033530370?s=20?
To be fair it’s not just him, multiple players were pretty stoked on their highlights in the blowout loss.
