Unfortunately this has the chance to be really accurate. Lets hope he is willing with an open scholarship to go after a transfer now.

Paulsen is not "dynamic." It's as plain as walking into a bar and seeing who the "whore" is. People are who they are.

Why we continue to hope for anything different is ridiculous.

Yeah, and fans are pissed when their coaches chase the cash, and there's an even more emotional connection to the players who go through the program than the coaches. I think it's totally normal to feel betrayed when a player decides to leave when they would have been a centerpiece of the team (it's different for a player like JDS who just wasn't going to get much playing time here).

Have to start rooting for the name on the front of the jersey...not the back......

seriously, the love affair with any kid who throws on a mason jersey is just sad at this point. College hoops rosters are fluid more than ever now

Coaching/recruiting is about to matter more than ever now. Convincing a kid to come to your school, then stay at your school is going to be an invaluable skill set. Coaches who sold themselves as pure Xs and Os guys aren’t going to last.

Its not only the convincing to come, stay, and develop. It is also adjusting to the environment when those who don't work out with transfers etc.

No question college basketball is changing, but you still need coaches capable of teaching guys how to function as a team. If anything that skill will be even more important with all the roster turnover that’s coming.

I don't really buy it. X's and O's will always be vitally important, just as recruiting has always been.

It is my personal opinion that the basketball community tends to overthink things to try and be clever. Take "positionless basketball" for example.

Wasn't the one-and-done rule and the grad transfer rules supposed to give an advantage to P5s? Seems to me that more mid-majors are having tournament success now than ever.

Agreed. My theory is this: mid-major coaches have to be creative and ahead of the curve, given the obvious disadvantages, relative to the P5 schools, out of necessity. There are always going to be changes to rules whether its on the court or off of it. Good coaches find the opportunities within the rules and adapt to gain an advantage; usually with some risk. A P5 coach doesn't necessarily need to take the risk early in the new rule's life cycle. But once a coach has success adapting to the new rule, others mimic it and it gradually makes its way to the P5 schools. Everything goes in cycles.

Example- the A's followed the 'Moneyball' philosophy because they couldnt compete with higher spending clubs. They needed to find a way to level the playing field and Moneyball did just that. I'd argue that using a Moneyball approach ended the Red Sox and Cubs World Series droughts. It took some time, but now all most all MLB clubs are using data as a tool to shape their player development systems. Some more than others, but they all are using it.

the spread offense in college football was created out of necessity. the non-blue bloods knew they couldnt line up with the Alabamas and Florida States of the world back then. They knew they could recruit quick receivers but the big linemen werent usually going to play for the Texas Tech's of the world. So they recruited more of same type of players they knew they could get and adapted their offenses accordingly. Years later, the spread has become a staple of the game.

Coaches at the mid major level that can find opportunities in the changing landscape will have success. They have to find those opportunities; if they don't, they can't win and end up looking for new jobs.

Most interesting from this convo. When Schmidt arrived, and began calling recruits, they would ask "Is Bonaventure D1."

Only team in the A-10 with 6 straight double-digit win seasons. Only Dayton has won more games in the past 5 years.

    Truly incredible.

but.. but.. but.. resources?!??! Olean New York is a highly sought destination for 18-22 year old men isn't it? They should definitely be beating Syracuse for 4 star big men because of these vast resources right?

    Danny Manning was fired.

No reason we can't fire Dave Paulsen during this offseason and choose a quality upgrade.

Brilliant idea. I’m not sure why nobody has hired you to run an athletic department.

I want us to win. Period.

I mean come on. At least when DJ3 was trolling, he could get peoples' addresses right. WHAT HAVE WE COME TO! That was probably because DJ3 had better RESOURCES! A Mason hoops board where we can't even troll right is UNACCEPTABLE! Let's hire ADVOCATES AND LOBBYISTS to get this problem corrected ASAP before we end up like the UMASS BOARDS!

GW has secured 3 home and homes against power 5 teams this offseason. GW...... and we can’t get a decent mid major to schedule one with us.
