It was a unique situation, but Mason didn’t offer him. No question we have missed on players going to comparable schools but must be forgetting kids that chose worse schools. Last year specifically we targeted good players. Have to start hitting.

Speaking of kids we missed out on that seemed like were within grasp Jamir Young seems to be having a nice little Freshmen year at Charlotte.

Kolek had a few A10 offers. Would love to get Darius for 2021.

We didn’t miss on him. Signed XJ instead.

    Jahmir Young > Daddy
    Parr>Oduro

Didn't want to say Jahmir Young over XJ but that is very much so a possibility

No it isn’t. XJ is playing in one of the best basketball leagues in America. Young is playing in a one-bid borderline low major wasteland. Level of competition matters.

And Young vs. Daddy is an irrelevant comparison. We weren’t gonna take another PG in the same class with Hartwell only a year ahead.

I don’t doubt this, but I imagine the athletic department is always evaluating. BE would be contemplating the next steps if mason only won 2 A10 games. Last night was huge for DP

what league they play in doesn't hold all the weight on who is a better player. They split with ODU but also beat Davidson. You think we are winning Conference USA this year? I would bet against that any day

Their 4th worst team UTEP also beat New Mexico St who you can never seem to stop talking about when promoting this Mason team.

Our conference may be better than CUSA but Mason hardly is lol

But it does. You're not watching the kid play week in, week out. You're looking at stats. Those stats are skewed based on the competition. Talking about who they did and didn't beat, and how Mason couldn't win CUSA is about the team. But if we're talking about an individual player in a low major League vs. the A10, competition does matter. XJ's offensive stats have to be seen through the lens of what kinds of defenses he's doing that against. And vice versa.

That’s fair, I remember being in Jamir’s final school list but I forgot we signed XJ prior.

His stats could be skewed due to competition and he is getting lots of minutes as a starting freshmen. Looks like he put up nice numbers against the bottom dweller ACC school WF.

I take it you think Obi Toppin is a bit overrated as well since he hasn’t played near top talent this year. Glad you don’t work for my Celtics

Come on. You can spin anything to fit the I Hate DP narrative but why compare kids who play completely different competition in an effort to make a player on YOUR team look worse? Bringing up Toppin in this debate is like bringing up Hitler in any debate. Completely false equivalency ti make a splashy point. And, once again, I WATCH Toppin play.

You said Young is probably better than XJ. Jim pointed out that competition matters when judging stats. You said he's wrong. He's not. Honestly reply with how many times you've watched Young play, and what precisely you saw that made you confident that this was a swing and a miss by DP.

Look, I've been flirting with your level of DP criticism, but this type of equivalency just doesn't advance your point. If you're not actively comparing talent, rather than reading box scores and articles, admit your desire to see DP go away is clouding your assessment.

This is spot on.... sleeperpick has no objectivity. Anything and everything even remotely tied to DP is trash. Will you ever admit you where flat out wrong on Oduro?

If Oduro could play even a lick of defense I would probably admit that. Facts are he is 10x better offensively than I gave him credit for. But he is also a lot worse at defense for a 6 foot 8 dude that can't seem to clog the middle. AJ bails him and the guards out constantly.

    It's also called FOMO.

XJ is a good player and if he develops a consistent outside shot is going to be a great point guard for us.

I don't know what Oduro's ceiling is, but he's better than a lot of freshman bigs who have come through here recently.

Great post, honestly. But your point about worse competition is just lazy. Ja Morant, Steph Curry, Obi Toppin, Kawaii Leonard just to name a few played shit competition. I am not calling Young any of those but it is just a lazy take coming from someone with an opposite agenda of mine. If he is going to be lazy so am I in retort.

My sources in org tell me that Daddy isn't very good and I hope they are wrong. They were also the first to tell me about JDS being completely lost which seems to have been right.

I have watched 3 Charlotte games. Wake Forest, Davidson and the second ODU game. Gonna put him on the television tonight vs UNT (who played VCU, URI and Dayton decently close if I am correct). I also watch Chase Paar who was according to our resident insiders (told no by Mason because of Oduro). I happen to think he is a lot better than Oduro but I guess that one we can see because they will play 4 years in the same conference against each other. Game 1 out of 8 certain games goes to Parr so far.

XJ is a nice young player and you will not find anything on this boards from me saying otherwise. But I can still think Young is better. I don't see the problem in that. And I guess we can never tell because Young plays weaker competition on a pretty similar team to Mason.

What I like about Young: Dude doesn't shoot 3's with a gigantic hitch that looks unfixable, dude is a junk yard dog aggression wise (so is XJ), he plays better defense than XJ (hopefully that changes) and he is a shoot first guard that could be a help to a team that seems to have no offensive identity when Javon or AJ aren't taking over the game. I can't help that I like Young. I wanted Mason to sign him since the day I started watching his mixtapes

I do want Paulsen gone. I don't think for a second that is a hidden agenda.

TLDR I like Young and wanted him on the squad. Doesn't have to be over XJ because they play completely different basketball.

Young also was recruited by better programs than XJ but because he chose to Conference USA school that automatically degrades him which makes little sense to me

Charlotte has a higher Ken Pom currently and higher ADJSOS so I am not even sure they are playing worse competition. At least Ken Pom agrees with me. Sorry you and Jim don't.

Sorry you hate our coach so much that you post negative stuff about our players on our board. The only Mason player you ever have anything good to say about is AJ — I guess he gets a pass because Dave unfairly glued him to the bench for his first two years?

    Anything to serve your narrative.

Jim I brought a stat to you after you made a false claim about competition. Don’t be upset just own you’re wrong per usual when a stat is actually involved and not a positive gut feeling. I wouldn’t say I’ve been negative to Hartwell or kier either but whatever to fit your narrative.
