With Ian entering the transfer portal, I thought I would create a full list of Paulsen's recruits past and present that would be seniors now plus those that have already left to get a visual of our roster turnover. Keep in mind this list excludes the 4 Hewitt players that left the program during Paulsen's watch (PH, Eric Lockett, Trey Porter, and Isaiah Jackson). So it could be even worse than it already is. I know transfers are just part of college hoops these days but Paulsen's team turnover ratio is just absurd. Seriously makes me question the way the program is being run behind the scenes. I guess it doesn't really matter though. This team will be even worse next year under a Paulsen run team presuming Javon, and AJ are gone. And I wouldn't be surprised if Xavier transferred to UCF or somewhere else. So regardless, Paulsen's gone by 2022. Since starting 11-1 last year: Dave was 6-14 overall and 5-13 in conference last year. Dave is 8-8 overall and 4-6 in conference this year. Overall: Dave is 14-22 and 9-19 in conference. I didn't even dig into how many of the 9 wins or the 14 wins have been 1 point wins, barely wins or buzzer beaters etc. Yikes. For someone who we thought was turning the corner after the 11-7 conference season in Year 4, that is a pretty steep nosedive.
Thanks for doing this. Only way XJ transfers to UCF is if UCF has a JV team to play on. He is not a D1 basketball player right now. Whether it be because of injury or something else he is NOT good
True. But it doesn’t change where I’m going at. Him leaving is still on Paulsen. It’s not like he decided to leave the program right after the season ended. If I remember correctly he left like a month into the start of practices or something like that. Makes me think there was something going on that Paulsen could have managed better or tried to intervene.
Keyword “Right Now. I think his knee might be bothering him. I thought his freshman campaign was great and saw improvement as the season progressed. He’s our best ball handler and He’s one of the few players we have that can attack the rim. Whatever demons he’s got going right now I hope he can shake them off,
oh I agree.. I saw some very impressive moments last year.... but EVERYTHING is off right now. Cannot pass well at all, is 2 steps slower, mentally not in the games as much, bad defense. I hope whatever is wrong with him whether physically or mentally gets fixed. He will never be a shooter or a real scoring option, but his past ability to drive and dish or score is invaluable at a school like Mason. Polite also had one game looking like old XJ. Didnt see much before and have seen even less since
I think he left two weeks before the season was going to start (actually it was 4 days before the season opener).
I thought that you made an excellent presentation and would want to correct an error. For whatever reason(s), he left college with 3 years of eligibility remaining and is now playing pro basketball in his native Portugal.
Regardless of the reason, we’ve had way too few guys start and complete their eligibility at Mason. On top of the W-L record, it’s just another strike against DP.
Nothing is inconceivable when it comes to Mason basketball. During the Ernie Nestor era, Craig Hodges quit the team during a game. During the Paul Westhead era, G.C. Marcaccini quit the team during a West Coast road trip. And, only 2 players who were recruited by and played for Paul Westhead completed 4 years of eligibility at Mason: Ahmad Dorsett and Nik Mirich. And, we could also talk about the termination of other Mason careers during the Westhead era including Jason Williams, Lloyd "Showtime" Walker, and Curtis McCants.
Dominance!!!!!! Get used to it GMU fans. Total f&cking dominance!!!! DP has been teasing us these past 6 years just waiting for an opportunity to show us his true colors. Shame on all of you for doubting DP!!!! Coach K? Screw him. Give me DP any day. The legend lives!!!!!
