Yeah I think that’s more telling than NCAA tournament appearances. There’s no reason we shouldn’t be a top 100 program and it shouldn’t take 6+ years to happen. 6 years in and still not even close to being in the top 100, we wouldn’t be in year 7 with DP either.

There’s even less excuse to not being in the top 100 because the move to the Atlantic 10 was supposed to help in this type of area, amongst other things.

If we were in the CAA still, like some ingnorantly say we should be, imagine the recruits DP would bringing into the program. If Patriot League level players equal DP while in the A10, then, IMO, DIII players would flooding our roster if we were still in the CAA.

Being in the A10, is probably the only selling point getting the recruits we do get, to sign here.

I think it' an entirely different argument. Would we be spending on basketball in the CAA what we are in the A-10? If the answer is yes, we'd be the biggest spender in that conference. We spend about a million a year more than Charleston, Elon, and Northeastern. Drexel, Delaware, and James Madison aren't anywhere close.

If the answer is no and we're hovering somewhere in the low 3 million, high 2 million range like the rest of the conference, you'd have a point.

It's a mystery to me just how bad Paulsen has been at recruiting forwards. It's one thing to be bringing in guys like Otis, Grayer, Kier, Miller, Greene in the backcourt, all those guys are mid-level A-10 players, but other than AJ the forward situation for the last 6 seasons has been an utter disaster (Dixon, Temara, Relvao, Reuter, Calixte, Oduro -- I'll withhold any thoughts on Henry because Paulsen doesn't let him play). That is an absolutely terrible track record on bigs. It's bizarre.

I'm looking at the last time Bucknell played Mason. It was Hewitt's first season (2011-2012). Bucknell won 61-57.

This is their starting lineup (funny, Bryson Johnson played in this game):

    F Joe Willman 6'7, 217
    C Mike Muscala 6'11 234
    G Bryan Cohen 6'6 213
    G Bryson Johnson 6'2 194
    G Cameron Ayers 6'5 205

    Off the bench:

    Bryan Fitzpatrick 6'8 238
    Steve Caspar 6'2 181
    Joshea Singleton 6'3 212

Why do I have a feeling this 2011-2012 Bucknell team eats our current team alive (and it's not just because Muscala drops like 30 on them)?

Frankly I think we get the same recruits.
Paulsen relies on recruiting players with zero scholarship offers.

Funny enough, most of our guys are heavily recruited by CAA teams:

    Gadsden: Towson
Gray: Elon, JMU (should note St. Bonaventure offered him days after we did -- I'll leave Tech and Cincy off of there, because it's sore spot for Sleeper)
Frazier: Drexel, JMU, Hofstra (should note UMass also offered)
    Polite: Delaware, JMU, W&M
Kolek: Northeastern, Towson (offers from St. Bonaventure, Richmond)
    Oduro: Elon, W&M, Towson
    Miller: Towson, Drexel
Calixte: Hofstra, UNCW (also offers from St. Bonaventure, La Salle, DePaul -- wonder what a different coach would have done with him?)

there’s obviously going to be some overlap always, but I’d love to see big east and acc etc teams on these lists for mason too, not just caa.

Beating a dead horse but the guys for the Atlantic 10 need to be fringe bcs players, obviously there can be some exception but you really need a few of them in my opinion.

I was hopeful the new shiny facilities would help by now. Hopefully the next staff can benefit a bit more.

An offer sheet like Kolek's should be a baseline, not be one of the better offer sheets on the entire roster.

It's interesting that the 2019 Rhode Island Gatorade POY did not receive an offer from Rhode Island.

Trivia question: Name the former Patriot who was a Rhode Island Gatorade POY?

He would have fit right in with some of Coen’s better teams at Northeastern though.

    Answer: no idea.

    Mens or Women's?

Contrell Scott or McCants. I think there may have be a women's soccer player in early 90's but not sure.

150% agree. And maybe you do have 1 or even 2 guys who are under the radar you think you got to them before everyone else. Thats fine, every team has those. Some of the 2021 class were excellent examples of improvement in that area like Darius Johnson, Rafael Castro, Erik Reynolds, Markus IIver. Unfortunately, none of them are coming to Mason. The guys you sign absolutely be more like Kolek though in terms of offers.

Three of those guys were a stretch, especially Ilver who had like 10 P6 offers. But we should have been able to get Erik Reynolds, especially since he committed to a bigger dumpster fire than us.

to be fair I think if we played St Joe's exact schedule we would have 3 wins ourselves.... they have the best non conf schedule in the conference and are without two of their best players (Daly and Foster Jr)

Also to be clear Billy Lange is one of 3 worse coaches than DP in the conference so I feel you there though.

And Lange is only 2 years into what I assume was a 5-year deal (that’s fairly standard) so they’re stuck with him for a while unless a rich alum wants to step up and buy him out.

if you are going to run an NBA offense with 0 defense you best be able to actually score...... They have Funk and a bunch of fringe A-10 bench players trotting out there right now. not going to win many games with that

Mason was close on him, but he knew one of the coaches for years and that was that. Curious if he ends up staying although I suspect he will get immediate playing time.

He has been so so bad, but I suspect he will get at least another year.

And zero bigs ... they’re not going anywhere until he finds someone who can defend the paint
