I know there are one or two other soccer/MLS/DC United fans on this forum, so I thought I'd start a DC United thread.

Let's talk about their offseason so far.

    Acquisitions:

Forwards -- Fabian Espindola, Eddie Johnson, Conor Doyle (permanent transfer from Derby County)
    Midfielders -- Davy Arnaud
Defenders -- Bobby Boswell, Sean Franklin, Nana Attakora

    Released:

Forwards -- Dwayne De Rosario, Carlos Ruiz, Lionard Pajoy
Midfielders -- John Thorrington, Marcelo Saragosa, Sainey Nyassi
Defenders -- James Riley, Danniel Woolard, Dennis Iapichino

That's a ton of roster turnover. And given how poor their defense was and how anemic their attack, it is much needed.

Do you think the new stadium will actually get built? I know their record was well under .500 this season, but I think people are tired of attending games in a dump of a place.

This coming from a huge soccer fan, as it is my favorite sport next to college hoops. I haven't attended a DC United game in years.

Washingtonian, I do. It seems like the city council is ultimately for it, but the mayor is kind of bungling the land swap negotiations a bit, so I'd be very surprised if the opening date comes anywhere close to their original timeline.

When I see shovels and construction trucks in the dirt, then I will believe it.

    This is 10 years overdue.

So after a shaky start to the season, DC United is on a five game unbeaten streak going 3-0-2, including a 4-1 win against western conference leaders Dallas FC (5-2-1).

Still early in the season, but this club looks a lot different from the one last year -- the back line is leaps and bounds better, Kitchen is coming into his own, and they have three MLS (or better) quality keepers to choose from.

The attack is still a work in progress, but DeLeon finally seems to be coming on, Espindola looks like he's going to be a productive addition up top, and Rolfe was an advantageous trade once Pontius got shut down with another surgery.

If Eddie Johnson can figure out where he fits in and get his footing, DC United could be a very dangerous team come the summer transfer window.

Impressive win vs Dallas. I have a friend who is a huge Houston sports fan, so this probably made him happy.

Payback for last season? Or did Bayern run over Barca to get to the final?

I don't remember Madrid doing very well against Dortmund either.

No it was a bad year for Spanish football in the Champions League. I will root for Chelsea tomorrow but I wouldn't mind seeing a Madrid Derby .

Went to two games this year already, Red Bulls and FC Dallas. I plan on going to the Montreal match too.

At the Red Bulls game, the VCU Peppa band was there. I talked to Total Package and introduced him to a friend or two.

What a brilliant collapse today by Liverpool. Palace scores three goals in ten minutes to compromise Liverpool's title chances.

Palace broke the Liverpool manager. He just conceded the title to City.

I know this isn't much of a popular thread, but it's positive D.C. sporting news anyway: United is currently in first place in the East and just 2 points behind Seattle in the race for the Supporter's Shield (trophy given to team with the most accumulated points during the regular season).

Given that they only won 3 games last year, it's quite a turnaround, especially considering their rebuilt the roster with almost exclusively MLS-level talent.

I am a little worried that Europe will come calling for Perry Kitchen and Bill Hamid in the offseason, though. Those two have really stepped up their game this year, and Bill Hamid especially is a prime candidate for a call from a Premiership side.

With a 2-1 win against Chicago last night at RFK, DC United has clinched first place in the Eastern Conference.

    Goal scorers last night:

Chris Pontius (First league goal since September 2013 -- DC United's longest serving player, has been injury-plagued his entire career with a few ill-timed injuries that have derailed some pretty promising seasons).

Eddie Johnson (also with the assist on Pontius's goal last night -- much maligned high-profile offseason acquisition, now has 7 goals on the season (9 in all competitions).

    What is a "United"?

Political correctness has ruined sports team naming.
