Our Associate AD brought the Lombardi Trophy after the Super Bowl! Plus the last time it was played in MN, Brad Edwards had 2 interceptions!

Yeah, I saw our Assoc. AD as well. Unless Mr. Green was shaking down Jeffrey Lurie for some dough, I hope Brad wasn't watching that.

Yep! This photo was promoting the NBA playoffs a couple years ago. Couldn't pass it up! :)

When I first saw him walking with the trophy, I thought that Green looked a little feeble. In retrospect, I think it was just the fact that he was surrounded by younger, bigger players that were in all of their pads.

Green is at the Pro Bowl - and Mason Athletics is tweeting it. That's all well and good - but I again ask - what the hell is this guy doing for our department? Has he brought in one major donor or sponsor like they said he would? Surely if he had, there would be a release.

Hell, I don't even see him at games anymore. We are paying this dude $100,000 plus - money that Mason could put to such better use...not to mention it's a horrendous use of taxpayer funds. I know I'm the only one raising this and coming off like a crank, but I donate to GMU and would like to see my money used towards something useful, not a vanity project for AD Edwards. Can someone tell me ONE THING this guy has done besides take a picture with their grandkid at the one or two basketball games a year he shows up at?

He has the title of Associate AD - what does that mean? What is he doing for our department? That's great he's shaking Russell Wilson's hand at the Pro Bowl - but is the best use of an Associate AD's time and money to be flying out to Hawaii for a week in the middle of basketball season? How many home games is he missing? Who paid for his travel? is it GMU? How many donor meetings is he missing out on being at the Pro Bowl? Does he use PTO for this trip? I'm sorry, but I'm tired of it. I've written an email to the AD letting them know I would not be donating in 2020 until I find out what exactly Green does. I know I'm not the biggest donor at GMU, but I do give low (very low) four figures each year and I'm tired of it.

Winning or losing - I get it. Losing sucks, but I don't think anyone on here questions Paulsen's effort. We may not agree that he's the right coach, or love every decision, but we can agree they're made with the team and programs best interest at heart. He's not sabotaging himself or the season.

Can you honestly say that about "Associate AD" Green? What in gods name is he doing. That $100,000 could be two scholarships for a non-revenue sport. It could be an extra charter trip for men's basketball. It could mean an extra $25-30,000 per assistant coach in MBB allowing us to get a greater coach or choose from a better pool of candidates. It could be a new god damn scoreboard at baseball. But instead we are paying this guy to flaunt around at the Pro Bowl? Give me a break.

If you get a response please let us know, I know a few of us have had this same conversation before at Brions and in the goldroom, no one really knows what he does here.

    https://www2.gmu.edu/located-for-opportunity/darrell-green-‘-built-ambassador’-for-mason:

"Green, the Hall of Fame cornerback who played 20 seasons with the Washington Redskins, has several duties at Mason. His primary focus is development. He meets with business groups and chambers of commerce and leads monthly meetings he calls 'Crunch Time,' which, Green says, 'brings together eight to ten businessmen and women who we consider potential investors in the university.' He is also a liaison between the university and prospective students and their families."

"One of his major goals is increasing the public’s involvement with the university’s men’s basketball program.

But his focus goes beyond basketball; it’s 'important to our school and our social environment. That said, we want to raise athletes to new heights across the board, on the courts and the fields, in the classroom, and as human beings.'”

I think we were all excited to have someone of his stature and fame come on board, but the McKays are still our biggest donor, and they would be even if it was me as associate AD instead of Green.

I'd donate much more if you were the Associate AD. Much more.

My source in the AD tells me that "Crunch Time" hasn't taken place in two years. It happened two or three times in his first six months and hasn't happened since.

How's he doing increasing the public's involvement with the men's basketball program? No one goes to our games. For the 9,000th year in a row we don't have a Friday night ESPN game. No national writers or websites or anyone pays any attention. We're irrelevant in the Atlantic 10, much less on a national stage. What's he doing to help that? How is going to the Pro Bowl in the middle of basketball season supposed to further GMU basketball? I was in school when Paul Westhead was the coach - i remember dark, lean years at Mason, but i never remember us being as irrelevant as we are now. We simply do not matter. We're not a factor in any regional or national discussions.

I think crunch time now refers to when Brad and Green eat potato chips together while they laugh all the way to the bank making some really easy money.

I’m not sure what he does either to be honest. Has anyone seen him with donors at games and the like, or shmoozing in the green/gold rooms?

I would have thought he would be advertising the connections he’s building or meetings that he is creating because he is who he is. I do believe he was in Brooklyn last year.

Overall, It is a strange situation.

This goes back a couple of years, but I know he had a suite in Verizon Center (or whatever the name was then) the time that the A10 tournament was in town. Presumably to schmooze with potential/actual donors.

I did see him in the Green room before Mason Madness this year, and I have seen him at quite a few games this year as well - usually with people at the bottom of Sec.118 on the floor by the student section, schmoozing, but with whom, I’m not sure.

What would be helpful is if we started seeing some big donations to phase II of the practice facility from someone other than Kathy McKay.

For a school that doesn’t have a football program, they sure do love touting the fact that they have 2 former players on staff

While what he is doing for 100k is a valid question....as long as the Pro Bowl is on his vacation time and not paid for by Mason....its none of our business.
