If you are a catcher - cannot be "apex" - contradiction in terms.

"Tonight’s game between the Phillies and New York Yankees at Citizens Bank Park has been postponed following a coronavirus outbreak suffered by the Miami Marlins, according to sources.

The Marlins remain in Philadelphia, quarantined in a hotel after postponing their home opener tonight against the the Baltimore Orioles. At least 14 Marlins players and coaches have tested positive for COVID-19, with eight players and two coaches testing positive Sunday, according to ESPN.

Major League Baseball has called a meeting today to discuss the outbreak, and how to move forward."

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...ocal1-8-12_hs-sports-115pm:homepage/story-ans:

"The novel coronavirus pandemic has postponed all Virginia high school sports until after Christmas, as the state athletic association voted Monday to schedule three condensed seasons starting Dec. 28.

Winter sports competitions will begin Dec. 28, and the postseason will end Feb. 20, followed by fall sports from Feb. 15 until May 1, and spring sports from April 12 until June 26.

This was one of three options the Virginia High School League discussed after its last meeting July 15. The other two options were to cancel all fall sports except golf and cross country or to swap the fall and spring sports seasons."

"The schedule from December to June is contingent on Virginia remaining in Phase 3 of its reopening. In Phase 3, high-risk sports such as football, basketball and lacrosse are not allowed. If the state advances in reopening, the season could start sooner; if the coronavirus crisis intensifies, the season could be delayed or canceled."

Positive coronavirus tests with the St. Louis Cardinals have postponed their game against the Milwaukee Brewers, a source tells ESPN, confirming the @jonheyman report. Unclear how many, but to this point positives had been limited to teams in the East. Now in the Central, too.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/30/sports/ncaabasketball/college-basketball-recruiting.html:

"In April, Jay Wright, the men’s basketball coach at Villanova, worried the coronavirus pandemic would hurt his ability to recruit players from next year’s high school class.

Because coaches could not watch players in person or have them visit their campuses that month, Wright was not sure how he and his staff would be able to properly evaluate the athletes.

'If it affects us and hurts us a little bit, so what?' Wright said in April. 'Suck it up. There’s a lot more important things going on in our world right now.'

Three months later, his fears seem almost quaint.

After two recent verbal commitments, Wright and his staff now have four rising seniors committed and thus the No. 1 recruiting class for 2021, according to the recruiting website 247Sports.com. They include players who could start in the future: point guard Angelo Brizzi of Virginia, shooting guard Jordan Longino of Pennsylvania, small forward Trey Patterson of New Jersey and the big man Nnanna Njoku of Delaware. Under Wright, Villanova has won two of the last four N.C.A.A. championships, and these players are eager to be a part of the growing tradition.

"Several other schools are also benefiting. Baylor, Butler, Ohio State, Southern California, Louisville, Michigan and Florida State each had three players committed for 2021 as of Wednesday.

'What’s really pushed up the whole recruiting process is the pandemic because kids are uncertain as to whether they’re ever going to be able to make paid visits to these schools, so they’ve had these virtual visits,' Tom Konchalski, a longtime recruiting expert, said in a phone interview. 'Obviously, that doesn’t give them as much of a feel for the team, the campus, the coach, the players and the whole culture of the school as if they took a visit when school was actually in session. But it’s better than nothing."

In letter to Big Ten ADs, commissioner Kevin Warren says “if we determine as a Conference it is not prudent to compete in the fall of 2020, we will not do so," @Dan_Hope reports. Also, Big Ten will decide “within next 5 days” if preseason camp begins next week as scheduled

    https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id...wn-players-do-better-job-managing-coronavirus:

Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred told MLB Players Association executive director Tony Clark on Friday that if the sport doesn't do a better job of managing the coronavirus, it could shut down for the season, sources familiar with the conversation told ESPN.

The league and players recognize the coming days are a critical juncture following an outbreak among the Miami Marlins in which 18 players and two coaches have tested positive for COVID-19. Two positive tests by St. Louis Cardinals players on Friday exacerbated concerns inside the sport about the presence of the coronavirus and whether the jointly agreed-upon protocols are being followed properly to prevent outbreaks similar to Miami's.

Should another outbreak materialize, Manfred, who has the power to shut down the season, could move in that direction. Multiple players briefed on the call fear the season could be shut down as soon as Monday if positive tests jump or if players continue not to strictly abide by the league's protocols."

"We believe this path will secure a more sustainable financial future that will allow GW Athletics to better fulfill its mission. We also are mindful that while we do not expect to take additional action at this time, it could be necessary if the COVID-19 pandemic and the financial impact worsen."
