Well, might as well start this to see what rumors are out there or what ends up being confirmed as next season's out of conference opponents as the off season progresses.

    James Madison (Home)
    William and Mary (Away?)

Emerald Coast Classic, Nov 24/25 (source: https://www.bloggingthebracket.com/...vents-mte-neutral-site-showcases-thanksgiving). Baylor, Cincinnati and one unannounced team.

    EDIT based on later posts:

    American (Home Opener)
    Navy
    Wagner
    AT Georgia Southern (return game)
    Mason/Cincinnati (Emerald Coast Classic)

How do you all think Paulsen schedules next year? Aggressively in hopes of an at large? Or conservatively in hopes a good enough record could lead to a post season berth? It seems obvious that his thinking last year was that this year wouldn’t be the year so why not schedule 3 P5 games as a trial by fire mechanism.

    http://www.barclayscenter.com/news/...announces-agreements-with-acc-and-atlantic-10

“It’s exciting to bring the elite ACC and its storied men’s basketball tournament history to Brooklyn,” said Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark. “We’re looking forward to extending our Atlantic 10 partnership starting in 2019 through 2021 and creating competitive inter-conference doubleheaders with the ACC and the A-10. I want to thank ACC Commissioner John Swofford and Atlantic 10 Commissioner Bernadette McGlade for their commitment to Barclays Center and to Brooklyn. It’s clear that our position with both Conferences validates Barclays Center as the leading college basketball venue in the country.”

If I am reading this right, it is possible an ACC school could be in the cards.

This article is pretty old now. "The ACC and the A-10 will play inter-conference doubleheaders at Barclays Center in 2015, 2016 and 2017". Maybe that was all the "scheduling partnerships" that it was referring to.

Paulsen seems confident in the roster next season. With the Spain trip also to prepare for the season I hope we go all out on the schedule. Paulsens first two early season tournaments had mostly mid major teams. If this emerald coast tournament is an indication of anything, I'd expect a hard ooc schedule.

Nice. Playing a tournament where I grew up. Also, it's where Therence Mayimba plays.

I would follow St. Bonaventure's example from this year. They played in the Emerald Coast Classic, played at Syracuse, and otherwise played a bunch of weaker schools in their area. Other than the ECC they didn't even leave New York in the out of conference schedule.

I don't really care about strength of schedule. If we can rack up wins in the mid-20's while playing in the A-10, we should make the tournament. If we can do that while staying close to home, even better. Our OOC schedule should be set up to prepare us for conference play (and to be fresh for conference play). That's where we will earn our bid.

Our own example as well (2006 and 2011). We have to remember that the A-10 should give us many chances to get quality wins next year. No reason to overload the team.

By the way, Someone’s comment on Steve Goff’s article about. our loss to St. Joes has me dreaming of a Capital 5 with American, GW, GMU, Georgetown, and UMD.

I think the Emerald classic has a similar format to the Cancun tournament mason did this year in which mason will “host” two extra games as part of that.

Otherwise I have no clue who will be on the schedule. Hopefully it’ll be balanced with an eye towards it being good enough to help in case of an at large opportunity.

Gotta schedule strategically. Mix of home and road games against low- and mid-majors who are projected to finish at the top of their leagues, plus 3-4 cupcakes and maybe another P5 to go with the two we’re gonna face in Florida.

No need to go crazy with P5 road games, but we also can’t go with the Saint Mary’s model because their soft OOC schedule has screwed them 2 of the last 3 seasons.

How does the committee view neutral court games vs. away games? If we already have two in Florida, another may be a stretch.

I believe this was part of the deal when the ACC bought out the A-10's Championship Contract in order to go head to head with the Big East. There was a Miami-GWU home and away series, not sure of the other games

Louisville, Auburn and Lafayette were all buy games; Binghamton, CSUN, LA Tech, Fresno State all part of Cancun Challenge; Penn Stare was a return game and done, JMU was a return game but I’m sure we will extend, not sure about W&M or Morgan State.

    Forgot Howard University
although I am not sure if Howard is consistently competitive to American
IMO they are not competitive to the other 4

Philly's Big 5 have a longer history and tradition,
and at one point there was talk of adding Drexel or replacing Penn with Drexel

Georgetown-MD series was a few years ago, it was said that it wont be renewed anytime soon - no reasons given

Maryland didnt make the post season this year, some of their non league schedule is weak, they could probably afford to add in GWU and American as easy local wins

Perfect non-Power 5 scheduling model is Rhody
✅ Bought games vs low majors picked to finish in top-3 of their leagues (no sub-300)
    ✅ Home-and-homes vs strong mid-major teams
✅ Got shots at Seton Hall and UVa in NYC
    ✅ Played at Alabama
    Top-10 RPI all season #marchmadness
