American Added to Schedule, NC State Not Certain

As mentioned on our message boards, it looks as American will be Mason’s home opener for 2013. The two teams last met in the BB&T in 2005, where Mason crushed the Eagles 75-35. American and Mason haven’t played since, but with former coach Jeff Jones now at ODU, the two look to renew the series. American used to be a member of the CAA, but left in 2001 to join the Patriot League.

Rumors also circling that NC State could come to Washington, DC and face Mason in the BB&T classic, but there have been conflicting reports on the matchup. We spoke with ESPN’s Andy Katz about the game, Katz then contacted NC State coach Marc Gottfried who said that the matchup was “unlikely”. Obviously, things are still being worked out on the BB&T matchup.

NC State and George Mason last met in 2010 at the Charleston Classic, with NC State winning 78-65. That was their only previous meeting. NC State is, of course, a member of the ACC.
