2017 George Mason signee PF Goanar Mar was named on March 9th as one of 13 All-American members of the United States roster for the 44th Capital Classic, a high school all star game played every year in Washington, DC. This year’s game will take place on Saturday, April 8th at the Verizon Center.
The Capital Classic pits the top local high school basketball seniors from the DMV against top talent from around the country. Underscoring the level of competition in the Capital Classic, Mar’s twelve teammates for the United States team have all committed to Power 5 or Big East schools, as have six of the 14 players on the Capital (local) team.
The Capital Classic includes a preliminary game between the District All-Stars and the Suburban All-Stars at 11 AM, followed by the main event at 1 PM. Tickets can be purchased online or by visiting the Verizon Center Box Office at 701 F Street NW, Washington, DC. Proceeds from the game benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington.
Goanar Mar, a 6-7, 200 pound power forward prospect from De La Salle High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, signed with the Patriots back on November 11, choosing Mason over interest from several Big Ten schools. Mar has gone on to have a huge senior season for the Islanders (23-2), averaging over 21 points per game while being named one of the five finalists for Mr. Basketball in the state of Minnesota.
